Like Mother, Like Son

In case you missed it yesterday on facebook or twitter, here is a picture for your Thursday morning enjoyment...

hanging over toilet

Is this not the funniest thing in the world? I was hanging over the toilet and when I turned around Zachariah was doing this little number. Cracked.me.up. He did have a few sound effects to go with it, and he did spit in his toilet. I started getting onto him for spitting, but then I figured that sounded a bit hypocritical. Ha!

Anyway, just wanted to share this priceless cell phone picture with my blogger friends! Hope everyone has a great day!

Honkey The Donkey

Funny story:
A while back the kids were coloring pictures of a donkey in Sunday School. Zachariah, being the bright kid that he is, let everyone know that he thought he was coloring a dragon. His friend Emma (who is the closest kid at church to his age) said, "No Zachariah. That's not a dragon, its a HONKEY!".

Fast forward to a month or so ago:
When Zachariah broke his arm, Emma came over and brought Zachariah something to make him feel better. She, with the help of her mom and siblings, brought a YUMMY cookie and a Webkinz toy! Can anyone guess what animal the Webkinz was? It was a donkey! We appropriately named it Honkey the Donkey. (And yes, Zachariah really does call it Honkey.) I love that it is "their thing". I didn't know two year olds could have "things" or inside jokes, but they do. And its absolutely hilarious.

Fast forward to earlier this week:

<span class=
Here is Zachariah's book shelf. The bottom half of the bookshelf (the half that is visible) holds all of his stuffed animals and books. The books are in the green bins. The bins keep me from having to worry about the books being displayed in a nice, organized fashion. Its fabulous.

But that is beside the point!

<span class=
You may or may not have noticed Honkey the Donkey and a randomly placed book on the top shelf. Usually Honkey is one of two animals that Zachariah takes to bed with him, but on this day he choose not to have any animals share his bed. (I guess he was feeling a bit claustrophobic.) Z had been reading books at the beginning of nap time, and before he fell asleep he propped a book up next to Honkey so he could read it.

Is that not hilariously cute? I am sure its just one of those "you had to be there" sort of things, but it just cracked me up!

<span class=
Anyway, Zachariah REALLY loves his Honkey. And I just thought I should share the cuteness with everyone. :)

Sleeping Babe

The other night, as we were starting to watch a movie, I told Daniel to pause it so I could go make sure Zachariah was asleep. (I heard a lot of ruckus coming from his room 15 minutes before hand, so I just wanted to make sure he wasn't laying under a pile of rubble before I got settled in for a 2 hour long movie.)

And good thing I went and checked on him...

<span class=
Because if I hadn't, there would be a good chance that he would have had a major crick in his neck!!!

I don't know why, but for the past couple weeks Z has been falling asleep anywhere but his bed. Sometimes he falls asleep on the floor, sometimes in the closet, other times in the rocking chair. And its only at night. During his nap (when he takes one) he sleeps in his bed and ONLY his bed. But I guess he wants to change things up for bed time.

Crazy kid. Now he has us playing the "guess where Zachariah will be found sleeping tonight" game. Which is actually kinda fun! You should try it sometime! :)

The Hat

I have a silly kid. Not just the type of silly where you smile and think "What a cute and funny kid!" No. He is flat out hilarious.

He is constantly coming up with different ways to make us laugh. And then when we are all laughed out he will come up with ways to make himself laugh. Which makes us laugh even harder.

Anyone who knows my husband will not be surprised by my sons silly personality. Daniel has always been a goofball and my son is now turning into a goofball.

And let me just go ahead and say that I am loving every minute of it. :)

Diaper Box Robot

Zachariah has this new obsession with diaper boxes. He will put them on his head and declare, " I a robot!" then walk around the house running into walls and furniture. He has a blast and we have a good chuckle. That is what we call a win-win scenario.

As we were heading out the door this morning I happened to look down and notice that Zachariah was walking out of the house with the diaper box on his head! I laughed, he declared his state of robot-ness and we walked towards the car. But not before I grabbed my camera.

Your welcome.

Now you see him...

...now you don't!

Peep holes are VERY important for robots. How else are they supposed to see where they are going?

Yes, Zachariah The Robot came with us on our morning errands. Yes, this box was on my sons head the ENTIRE time we were in the car. And yes, I am pretty sure people were calling DFACS as they passed us on the street.

And just so you know, it took everything I had i me to talk him out of walking around Target like that.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Come back Monday to see what other quirky thing my son has up his sleeve. Or on his head.

:)

Misplaced Airplane

If I didn't have a toddler I would never get to say things like, "I found an airplane in my dishwasher" in my day to day conversations.

And really, what is the fun in having a conversation that doesn't include a story about a misplaced toy?

Well, conversations without stories of misplaced toys are actually a lot of fun. But I rarely get to have them. So I am going to pretend that non kid related conversations are a yawn. :)

If I can get myself moving I will have a vaccine post coming in the next day or so. Just hang in there a little longer. These random/boring posts wont be appearing forever. I just need a couple fillers until I can get my rear in gear!

Book Hopping

The last couple weeks have been very rainy and cold. Rain and 30 degree temperatures do not make for good errand/outing days, so we have been staying inside a good bit.

Which gives us a nasty case of cabin fever.

Which means that we have to come up with silly things to do to pass the time. And one of Zachariah's silly things happens to be jumping on books.

He picks out the largest books on his shelf, and then lines them up very carefully. Making sure each book touches the next one ever so slightly.

And then he jumps. All the way across. And once he reaches the end, he turns around and jumps back.

And when he gets tired of jumping across the books, he switches gears and starts running.

Spring, please come quickly. I am running out of books for my toddler to exercise on!

Delay

For the past few days Zachariah has been feeling a little under the weather (Nothing horrible, just a cough and a really runny nose). Which means we have been taking it easy during the day. Which means he hasn't been able to run out any energy. Which means he is not tired when it comes time for his nap. That being said, I have not had as much time to write my weekly vaccine post. If I cant get it up sometime today I will do it this weekend. I just wanted to let you know that I didn't forget about it! :)

And because I cant bring myself to have just one measly paragraph in this post, I have a mini story from yesterday to share with you.

Z and I were sitting in the living room trying to decide on a movie to watch. I asked Zachariah what movie he wanted to watch. He wouldn't choose one, so I put in Pooh. Its a classic and we both love it. After 8 min. of previews (which we both love to watch) the menu screen came on.

As soon as he heard the music, Zachariah said (in an uncertain tone), "Uh, noooo. I dont yike dis." Then I responded with a calm, "What?!?!? Since when do you not like Pooh???"

Without paying me a lick of attention, he promptly got off the couch, walked up to the tv and turned it off.

Then he sat on my floor and proceeded to take all of "his" movies out and lay them out in front of him.

After about three years of sitting there on the floor, he finally decided on Thomas. Which isn't even a movie. It's a collection of tv episodes.

This kid has some nerve to watch Thomas the Train over Classic Pooh. Geeze. What is wrong with this generation?!? He better be glad that he happens to be the cutest kid in the world. Or else I would not have allowed that kind of behavior in my house. Its just appalling.

Weirdo

We were over at a friends house for a play date last week and I looked over and saw this...

It made me laugh, so I decided to share it with you.

Because I am thoughtful like that.

Dish Tower

The other day we were all sitting in the living room watching Cars. 45 minutes through the movie Zachariah got up and walked out of the room. He didn't say much of anything, he just walked out. I just assumed he was going to his room to get his Lightning McQueen toy, so Daniel and I just stayed in the living room talking and watching Cars. (Hey, its a good movie!)

A few minutes later I hear a lot of noise in the kitchen. I figure that Zachariah is going through the Tupperware cabinet and ignore it. I was enjoying the fact that I could converse with my husband without a toddler climbing all over me and talking about who knows what. A few more minutes pass and I stop talking and just listen. That noise was not Tupperware. It was definitely the sound of Zachariah unloading the dishwasher.

When we walked into the kitchen he seemed a little worried (we have strict rules that state toddlers will be disciplined if they lay a finger on the open dishwasher), but then he got all excited about the "tower" he built. We couldn't help but crack up. He was so dang cute and so incredibly proud of his cup tower.

I must say, I was very impressed that he only touched his dishes. He did not touch the sharp objects or the breakables. He only unloaded the things that he knew were his. His cups, plates and the Tupperware (which he unloaded on the other side of the dishwasher) were the only things that were taken out.

Moral of the story: I should probably let Zachariah pick the movie next time. Either that, or close the dishwasher. :)

Mommyhood

Being a mom can be frustrating, exhausting, tiring, and a little trying on ones patience. But at the end of the day, being a mom is just downright entertaining.

I love the little surprises that Zachariah leaves for me! :)

Quirks

This is Zachariah's crib:

The bumper pad has pretty much reached the end of its life. Over the past couple months Zachariah has torn off the strings that tie the bumper to the crib rail (some of them were torn off by accident, but these last few have just been to see what kind of reaction he can get out of me).

Since most of the ties are no longer attached, the bumper doesn't really serve much of a purpose. It just kind of sits there all wimpy looking. Right when I was getting ready to take it off of the crib completely, Zachariah came up with a creative way to use it!

He basically sections off his crib with the bumper. As soon as we put him in his crib (for nap and for the night) he crawls around and starts arranging everything. It is absolutely HILARIOUS to watch. And in case you were wondering, he sleeps in the larger section and then sometimes puts a stuffed animal in the smaller section. It is quite frankly the weirdest thing ever, but it makes him happy. Which ends up making me happy.

I guess the bumper will be staying on the crib for a little longer.

Moral of the story: I have a weird kid. :)

Blooper Reel

This weekend I forced Daniel and Zachariah go down to the Veranda so I could take Z's two year old pictures. Well, I didn't force them. They actually went quite willingly!

Apparently two is an age that is just about impossible to photograph. Especially if you don't go into the whole thing with a lot of patience. Now I know why people hire professionals to do this. I have no clue how my photog friends get the amazing shots of toddlers that they do. I find it just about impossible!

Just for fun, here are a few "bloopers" from the shoot. I will post some of my favorite shots later this week. :)

This last one made me laugh. My kid is such a goofball!

Oh, and on a side note... I did so much squatting and bending down during this that my thighs are KILLING ME. If that is not a sign that I need to work out, I don't know what is.

Tu-Tle Outfit

Lets just face it. You are not going to see any more birthday party pictures on the blog. You will just have to mosey on over to my facebook page next week and check them out. For some reason I cannot stay on task to save my life. I apologize. But have no fear! I have a cute little story to start off your Thursday morning. :)

Preface:
My parents (Nana and Pops) bought Zachariah a cute little outfit on their 25th anniversary cruise this year. Every single time we open his closet he pulls out this outfit and looks for a turtle. Let me go ahead and tell you that there is NO turtle to be found anywhere on this outfit. I have searched this thing over quite a few times. So either he is imagining a turtle or he thinks a turtle should be on there somewhere. I am not sure which it is.

Yesterday I told Zachariah that he could pick out what he wanted to wear for the day. Anything in the closet was fair game. Upon hearing th enews, he ran over to the closet and as soon as my hand was on the doorknob he yelled "Tu-tle! Tu-tle!". Then he proceeded to move every piece of clothing to the side until he found the "tu-tle" outfit. And then he admired himself in the mirror. For at least five minutes.

Look at his face. Do you see him ooo-ing and ahhh-ing at himself?

And then he has to turn to the side. He doesn't miss an inch when he is checking himself out. This kid cracks me right up.

He is so proud that he picked out and is wearing his "tu-tle" outfit. I am just a little worried that he will now pick it as his outfit for the rest of the week! :)

Play That Funky Music White Boy

I don't know what is up with the titles of my posts here recently. But hopefully I will get all of these songs out of my head and return to normal here soon.

Last week, about ten minutes before the crying-in-the-mirror incident occurred, Zachariah was preforming for me. Well... he was technically just preforming for himself. But I like to say that it was for me. :)

When I go into my bedroom, even if it is only for a moment, Zachariah will run over to the clock radio and turn on some music. Then he will promptly ask for a "hang-gah" (hanger) to use as his microphone.

And as you can see, he will sing his heart out. And the only thing he likes better than singing into a hanger is watching himself in the mirror as he does it.

Sometimes he will give his little vocal cords a break and play the guitar.

And sometimes he will stop smack dab in the middle of a chorus to do a little dance, which never fails to crack me right up.

Or he will just stop and stare at himself... because he is a vain little toddler.

But regardless of when he does during his "vocal breaks", he always comes back with a vengeance when it comes to singing in the "hang-gah".

Big Girl's Don't Cry

(I realize that I have a son, NOT a daughter. But that song is stuck in my head, so I made it the title of my post. I apologize for any confusion that might cause.)

When you were a kid, did you ever watch yourself cry in the mirror? You know the situation. You start crying because your mean ol mom tells you you have to clean up your room, even though you JUST cleaned it a month ago and can still see an inch of your floor peeking out from the so called "clutter". And then once you start crying, you get so entertained with watching yourself in the mirror that you just end up crying for longer than what is considered necessary.

You remember that, right?

What? No one else did that? Well... me neither. I just heard about someone who did. Ahem.

Anyway. Zachariah has started doing that very same thing. And it cracks. me. up.

I was sitting on my bed folding laundry (a rarity in this house) when Z tried to pull a plug out of the wall. I told him not to do that and he got MAD. I mean, ridiculously mad. The kind of mad that you get when your van stops working after only two years of driving it. Though I suppose that is a totally different post.

So yes. He got mad. And he stood in front of my mirror and cried.

And then stormed over to my nightstand, snatched a tissue out of the box and came back over to continue balling his eyes out.

All the while I am sitting on the bed taking pictures and trying my darnedest not to bust out laughing.

And is it horrible that while I am taking these pictures I am thinking "Ooo, this is going to make a fun blog post" ? I mean, seriously. That cannot be normal. I may need to seek out some therapy or something.

Weirdo

It's true, I have a weird kid. Seriously folks, what normal child relaxes in the basket of their bulky travel system stroller on a random Tuesday evening? Oh, yeah. It's my child that does that.

I love this silly little kid. :)

Z-isms

Zachariah is sitting on a large storage container in our living room...

Me:
Zachariah, do not stand up on that box.

Z: (Stares blankly, pretending he does not understand, while slowly moving to a standing position.)

Me: Do NOT stand up on that box, you need to sit on your bottom. You don't fool me. I am not dumb. (the latter was muttered under my breath)

Z: (shouting) DUMB! Dumb, dumb, dumb!

Fabulous.

My Mother-In-Law Is Going To Kill Me....

I LOVE little boys with shaggy hair. I have wanted Zachariah's hair to be long, wispy, and shaggy for a while now. So I have decided not to cut his hair for a while, just to see what would happen.

A week or so ago I noticed the back of his hair getting pretty long. And so just out of curiosity, I decided to try this....

Yeah. You can just add this to the list of things that my son will hate me for later on in life. But I just couldn't resist. I HAD to know if his hair fit in a pony tail. And it does.

And Mrs. Debbie, if it makes you feel any better, he HATED me doing this. He was swatting my hand away like crazy. :)
