Do The Cool Whip

This has been one heck of a busy week (and it is far from over), but I wanted to stop in and show you Zachariah's new favorite thing to do in the kitchen! All you need is a bowl, spoon, whipped cream and food coloring! We had all of that in the house, so we quickly got to work.



We started off with plain ol whipped cream in one of my mixing bowls.





Then we added some red food coloring, and much to Zachariah's excitement and surprise, it made pink!





Then he told me he wanted "booo" to go in the bowl, so I put a good bit of blue in there and he went to town stirring.




And wala! We ended up with a pretty shade of "puh-ple". (My favorite color, in case you were wondering.)


After we made the purple, we put some whipped cream in a separate bowl and Zachariah asked to use red and yellow.




After a good bit of stirring, we ended up with this almost orange color. It actually looks more orange in the picture. In real life it was a bit wacky. But Zachariah recognized it as "orrrage" and he was pumped. :)

And here he is praying for his whipped cream. I thought that was hilariously cute, so here I am snapping pictures, when all of a sudden...



Ohhhhh! That is why he wanted to pray for it! Duh. I totally should have seen that coming. But that is why I used whipped cream instead of shaving cream.




When it was time to clean up, there was a bit of a tantrum. And as you can tell, Zachariah really enjoyed the whipped cream.

Ah well. Besides that little episode, it was great fun! This is particularly fun for a toddler/preschooler who is just learning their colors. Zachariah already knows all of his, but he had a blast telling me what color dye to put in and then telling me what color it made!

This cute little idea got two thumbs up from this mommy and toddler! :)

Another Painting Project

About a month ago Zachariah and I embarked on another painting project. Even though I have been horrible about blogging pictures of the projects, I have actually been doing one each month and Z has been loving it!

Mimi and Poppie recently did some rearranging and made one of their bedrooms into a playroom for the grand kids! So we decided to paint a picture frame that they could use to decorate the playroom. :) After I painted a base coat, I let Zachariah pick out the colors he wanted to use. Then we went to work!

(Note: With the exception of the base coat, Zachariah did this all by himself. I did not tell him where to paint, or what color to paint. Mr. Big Boy made all of the executive decisions)



First up was the color blue. As you can tell, Zachariah is quite serious about his painting. :)




After a brush change, came the color orange.




Then green...


You get the idea. It took a couple days to complete this project because of all the colors Zachariah wanted to use, but it turned out wonderfully!

*sigh* I love when I take the time to let him be creative. I need to do that more often.

Painting Project #1

Last week Z and I embarked on a new journey. One that required some of these...


That's right. We did a little painting project. We picked up a wooden door knocker from Michaels ( a whopping $1.00), a bag of children's paint brushes at Wal Mart ($4.00), then borrowed some of Daddy's paint and we were set!

(I want to go ahead and apologize for not taking very many pictures during this process. I needed to focus my full attention on making sure Zachariah didn't paint my walls.)



We started out with a plain wooden door knocker. (pretend there is a picture above)



Then I painted a base coat of blue while Z was playing. (again, pretend there is a picture above. I told you I didn't do a good job with the picture taking!)



We ran some errands while the paint was drying. Then Z sat down with a paint brush and a bowl of green paint and went to town. Quite artistic... don't you think? :)



After the paint dried (again) and we applied the wooden stickers that came with it, we had a finished door knocker!


And in case there was any doubt, Zachariah loved making it. Every time he walks by the door knob that it hangs from, he makes sure to "count" and point to all three of the bugs. Its super cute.

I am hoping to do a painting project once a week. We started out small with our first one just to play it safe. But I think its fair to say that Z thoroughly enjoyed it, and I cant wait until the next one! I will keep you posted on what we choose for our next project! :)
