A Picture

On the night of Zachariah's third birthday we threw away his paci's. It was a sad moment for him, and it took him well over 2.5 hours to fall asleep that night. But it has been over a week and he has done really great.

Well, except at nap time.

We have always had a bedtime routine that we follow. As he gets older we have tweaked it a bit, but for the most part it has stayed the same. Change into pj's, brush teeth, sit on the bed while dad reads a bible story, lay down and cuddle with mom and dad for a minute or two (which usually involves a bit of giggling), then we say our goodnight's and leave. The routine is something we all look forward to and I love that we have it. I think it helps him get in the mindset that sleep is coming. He knows what to expect when we start doing these things, and because he knows bedtime is coming he doesn't protest or argue about it.

I am realizing that we need to start doing the same thing with nap time. In the past we would change his diaper, tuck him in bed and leave. His paci would put him to sleep in no time. We never really needed a routine. But now it is very apparent that we need one. He has only napped once since we threw the paci's away. Once in nine days!

Help me Rhonda.

Anyway, to make a short story long, we have started a nap time routine in hopes of getting those coveted nap times back. Part of this nap time routine involves story time, and let me just say that I am loving it. Especially when Daniel is here. (He will generally schedule his lunch break so he can be home and eat with us, play with Z for a bit and then be able to be here to see him off to his nap. Is that not wonderful?) Because we both like to read to Z we split the reading up evenly. Z likes for Daniel to read his book(s) on the edge of the bed and he likes me to read laying on his pillow with him. :)

story time b&w

I don't know if this new nap time routine is going to help at all, but I sure do love reading with my two boys!

Yertle the Turtle

Dr. Seuss bed time stories are a favorite in our household. Zachariah asks for one just about every night before bed, and Daniel happily obliges to his request.

I love watching Daniel read to Zachariah. And I love how into the story they are. They both really get into these stories.

I love how much he adores his daddy.

And I love that I can document the cuteness with the stealth of a... cat. Or cheetah. Or an aircraft. Or something. What is the phrase I am looking for here?

Gah. That is going to bug me.

Ruh- roh. I think I have been spotted.

Yep. I am definitely getting yelled at by my toddler. Apparently taking pictures during story time is not acceptable behavior.

My bad.

These pictures make me smile. Definitely worth the scolding I received from Zachariah.

*sigh*

I love these two.

A Little Late

Pardon my tardiness on this Father's Day post, but we were SUPER busy this weekend. We had lots of fun visiting with both sides of our families, but come Sunday evening, we were worn out! Zachariah even skipped his nap due to all the fun he was having at Mimi and Poppie's house! (see above picture)

Just for fun, here are some comparison pictures of my hubby/best daddy ever. :)
Last year on Father's Day...
And this year!
Take note of Daniel's tie. Z made it for him for Fathers Day and Daniel wore it to church that morning. How cute is that? :)

Happy Belated Father's Day to all you daddy's out there!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Sick Day

My baby was sick yesterday. He had a temp of 103. Turns out it was no big deal... the fever apparently came from his throat. We got meds to nip it in the bud.

Regardless, he was sick. And if you can believe it, he is even MORE adorable when he is sick. I could just eat him up.

He and daddy ended the "sick day" by chillin out in front of the TV. Zachariah loves watching TV with his daddy. Who am I kidding... he loves doing anything with his daddy. Anyway. I snapped a pic. I thought it was cute.

I have a post about Z's swimming lessons coming in the next couple days. Until then, have a great weekend!

My Husband Is The Greatest

I will have a post about our beach trip in the next day or two, but for now I wanted to show you how awesome my husband is. Check out what he made me for Mother's Day...
Yeah. He made it. Every bit of it. Photographed, painted, designed, and printed the canvas. And I love it. The picture just doesn't do it justice. You should see it up close and personal. Its just spectacular.

Anyway, I just wanted to show you how creative and fabulous my hubby is. :)
Hope all the mommy's out there had a great Mother's Day!

Short and Sweet

I just wanted to give a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to my fabulous hubby! He turns 27 years old today... but amazingly enough, doesn't look a day older than 26. :)

Happy Birthday, baby!

Another DP Addict

For those of you who don't know, Daniel is a major Dr. Pepper addict. And because of all the DP stuff we have around the house, Zachariah has become very interested in Dr. Pepper cans and bottles. When he sees one he will crawl at an incredible speed to try and get to it before we take it away (he is usually not very successful). But the other day I opened the fridge and he made it in there before I could close it, and he started squealing like crazy when he saw all the Dr. Pepper cans. So we gave him a can... and he was in heaven. We have NOT let him drink any yet though. That will be a while down the road. Or at least until his Daddy or Uncle Greg decide to give it to him when my back is turned. :)

All that being said, go check out some cute/funny pictures of the incident that my hubby posted over on his blog.

Foliage

Daniel just recently moved into his new office at work. There isn't an abundance of air flow, so we are looking for a good office plant. Preferably one that can sit in a corner, does well in low lighting and is low maintenance. Any suggestions?

Happy Dad's Day

Just wanted to give a Happy Fathers Day shout out to my Dad, Father-in-Law and all the other Dad's out there! I hope you have a fantabulous Fathers Day!

And a special "Happy Fathers Day" to my oh-so-wonderful husband... who is such an incredible father to our precious baby boy. I am so thankful that he will grow up with a great role model of what a father should be like.

I Do

Two years ago today I married the most wonderful man in the entire world. He was my first boyfriend, my first kiss, my first love, and my first… Well you get the picture. I never, in my wildest dreams, imagined that I would find someone that would want to put up with all my crap for the rest of their life. I never thought I would get lucky enough to find a guy that I would fall more in love with each and every day. I never thought I would find a guy this perfect. I never thought it was possible be this happy.

I love you Daniel, and I am so excited I get to spend the rest of my life with you.

I miss him a lot

Luckily he is coming home today. :)

Mommy Necklace

As everyone already knows, my husband is the absolute greatest. I probably don't have to go down the list of all the house work and cooking that he does for me. And now he helps out a TON with baby Zac. But he apparently felt the need to one up himself as he shows his greatness once again. I found this on my pillow after we came home from the hospital. Meet my mommy necklace. Isn't it beautiful??? I LOVE it. He does the greatest job picking out jewelry. :)
So I have a mommy ring and a mommy necklace. All that's left is a mommy bracelet and mommy earrings! (And mark my word, we will be waiting a while to receive those)

Toaster de la Oven

For some time now Daniel and I have had differing opinions on Toaster Ovens. We had a toaster oven in our house grown up, and I think they are pretty useful. Now, by useful I mean I would rather use the toaster oven instead of the real oven when possible... but that's not the point. Daniel thinks they are useless. He sees no point in them whatsoever. If you ask him why we don't have a toaster oven, he will say "We have a toaster, and we have an oven. Why would we need a toaster oven?"
Side note:
We got one for a wedding gift, but Daniel convinced me that we didn't need it. And like a gullible newlywed I gave in to the peer pressure. So we re-gifted it to my mother.

So what is your opinion on the Toaster Oven? Useful or useless? Should I try and win the fight to buy one, or let it go? Will it be useful for preparing food for small children? Or will it end up being one of those kitchen appliances that I use for a week and then it spends the rest of its life cluttering up my kitchen counter? I need feedback people!
